Paddle for the Polar Bears
Want to learn how to Stand Up Paddle (SUP) all while benefiting a good cause? Paddle for the Polar Bears is where it’s at!
Here in Madison, Wisconsin we have the incredibly awesome, unbelievably FREE Henry Vilas Zoo and our polar bears (and seals!) need a new home. Paddle for the Polar Bears is a lesson-based benefit held on varying dates throughout the summer that provides 50% of proceeds to building the new, state-of-the-art Arctic Passage.
Our instructors are seasoned standup paddlers who will have you paddling comfortably within the first 10 minutes (yes, it’s THAT easy!).
All equipment included. Our 1 ¼-hour course will teach you:
a. How to find the sweet spot for balance and comfort
b. Paddling technique
c. Basic turning technique
You will also have the opportunity to demo several different boards at the end of your lesson session! Please dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. While we don’t expect you to get wet (ie, fall in the water), there’s always that slight chance.
Participants can also help support the Henry Vilas Zoo by renting any boat from Wingra Boats during Paddle for the Polar Bears, and $2 per boat rental will be donated to the Zoo. Wingra Boats is located adjacent to the event site. Thank you for your support! Learn more at www.paddleboardspecialists.com/info_events.asp

TEAMSurviror Inc. Capital Lakes DragonFest
What’s a dragon boat festival? This popular summertime event is a proven crowd pleaser. A dragon boat festival features 40 foot-long boats – each filled with 20 people paddling in unison, a steersman, and a drummer. Three teams race each other along a watery course, while bringing friends, family and community together for a common cause.
In 2011, more than 700 paddlers and 1000 spectators from corporations, businesses, schools and family teams “paddled with a purpose” on Lake Wingra. This year, we anticipate having 39 boats with more than 1,500 paddlers registering for our biggest year yet.
June 23, 2012 marks the date for the 3rd Annual Capital Lakes DragonFest! TEAMSurvivor Madison, Inc. and UW Carbone Cancer Center are partnering in this year's festival. Join us for the family friendly event.
- Family friendly fun
