Paddle to Work Day, June 17, 2010

The 12th Annual "Paddle to Work Day" will be celebrated as part of Take a Stake in the Lakes Days on Thursday, June 17, 2010 (rain date Friday, June 18), when people will paddle and row to their places of employment. Those who can't paddle on the 17th should paddle to work any day between June 3 and 26.

One commuter flotilla of many canoes and kayaks will leave from Olin Park boat launch on Lake Monona at approximately 6:30 a.m., arriving at Law Park at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Use the Registration Form to register for Paddle to Work Day and reserve a spot in the Voyageur canoe leaving from Olin Park, or let us know your plans to paddle your own boat. This information will be shared with other paddlers to facilitate even larger flotillas at many locations!

Please help us by sharing your plans, so that we can answer those who inquire "So who is out on the water on Paddle to Work Day?"

Paddlers should use their own good judgment about the weather, and not paddle in high winds or lightning. If you do paddle to work, please send an email to lakes@co.dane.wi.us with a short description of your experiences.

Questions? Want to know where to secure your boat for the day? Contact us at lakes@co.dane.wi.us.

Paddle to Work Day, now in its twelfth year, was noted in the June 2005 issue of Outside Magazine as one of the reasons Madison and Dane County are ideal locations for outdoor enthusiasts. Take a Stake in the Lakes Days, a program of the Dane County Lakes & Watershed Commission, takes place June 3-26, 2010 to raise awareness of the importance of lakes, streams and wetlands in our quality of life and how our daily lives affect the lakes and streams.
